How to Play

The Deal

1. Five cards are dealt face down to each player and five cards are dealt face down in the center of the table.
2. Betting round.
3. Any one of the center cards is turned over. Each player must discard all cards in their hand matching the turned center card.
4. Betting round.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4. There will now be two of the five center cards visible.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4. There will now be three of the five center cards visible.
7. Repeat steps 3 and 4. There will now be four of the five center cards visible.
8. Repeat steps 3 and 4. All of the five center cards are now visible.

The Betting

50 cent betting is permitted when either:
1. A pair has been turned (discarded cards do not count!)
2. After the fourth center card has been turned

The Showdown

1. Each player remaining in the game will declare high (30) or low (3).
2. Cards are now revealed.
– Aces count 1 or 11
– Face cards count 10
– Two through Ten count face value.
3. The player declaring low and closest to 3 wins low. The player declaring high and closest to 30 wins high.
4. If two players go the same way and are equally close to the declared number they share that half of the pot – it does not matter whether they are higher or lower than the declared number.
5. Number of remaining cards is irrelevant and does not act as a tie-breaker.

The Deal

1. Two cards are dealt to each player, one face down and one face up.
2. Betting round.
3. Each player that has not put three coins in front of them gets the choice of either:
– receiving an up card and removing all coins currently in front of them or
– adding one, two or three coins to any coins already in front of them.
Note: There are two variants to step three which are important as there is significant advantage to being the last player to choose whether to take a card after three rounds.
Variant 1: Each round the player to the left of the dealer declares first whether they want to receive another card
Variant 2: On the first round the player to the left of the dealer declares first whether they want to receive another card. Each subsequent round the player to choose first rotates one place to the left.
4. Betting round.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until all players have three coins in front of them.

50 cent betting is permitted once one player has five up cards. If the only player with five up cards folds the betting reverts to 25 cents until another player has five up cards.

The Showdown

1. Each player remaining in the game will declare high, low or both ways.
2. Cards are now revealed.
– Aces count 1 or 11

– Two through Ten count face value.
3. The player declaring low and closest to 7 wins low. The player declaring high and closest to 27 wins high.

Each player in turn chooses a card.  The card next to the deck costs 75c, the card next to that 50c and the card furthest from the deck 25c.  The players can also choose to take the next (blind) card from the deck for no cost.  Whichever card is selected is placed up in front of the player.  If one of the three exposed cards is taken it is replaced (face up) from the deck.

4. If no players hold their cards then the player with the highest two cards must match the pot up to a limit of $3. Cards are then redealt for another hand.
5. If multiple players hold their cards then the player with the highest hand takes the pot. The losing players must together match the pot with an individual limit of $3 and cards are then redealt for another hand.
– For example if the pot is $5 and three players hold their cards then the two losing players each contributes $2.50. If the pot is $7 and three players hold their cards then the two losing players each contributes $3

Terminology: the “Longest Flush” is the hand with the most cards of the same suit. For example, if a player has four heart cards and no other player has four or more cards of the same suit they have the Longest Flush.
1. Each player reveals his hand and cards speak for themselves, with the sole winner being the best high hand.
2. Determine the Longest Flush in the game.
3. If a player has a straight flush that is equal in size or one less than the size of the Longest Flush then they are the winner.
4. If condition 3 is not met then the player who has the Longest Flush wins. If two or more players have the same number of cards in the same suit then the regular flush tie-breakers apply (who has the highest card, next highest, etc. through the lowest card, then Hoyle for suit).

3. Betting round.
4. The next player turns his cards until he has the highest hand or has turned all of his cards.
5. Betting round.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all players have turned over all of their cards or all but one players have folded
7. The last player to have face down cards may only turn those cards if they can change the outcome of the game, either by making the high hand or the low hand.  If these cards cannot change the outcome then they cannot be played even if it could give the player a straight flush.

Wildcard Rules and Variants

If any queen is turned the current wildcard is cancelled and the next card becomes the wildcard. The player turning the queen must halt if canceling the wildcards means that he now has the highest hand.

Don Imus Version: only black queens trigger the wildcard

Suicide King Version: if the king of hearts is dealt then the hand is dead and is redealt to all players who had not folded

Don Imus Kills Himself Version: if the king of hearts is dealt then the hand is dead and is redealt to all players who had not folded unless both black queens have already been turned up in which case the hand remains live

The Deal

1. The dealer can nominate the minimum number of players who must play beyond step 4 to avoid a redeal.
2. Each player is dealt seven cards face down.
3. Each player passes three cards to their left.
4. Each player choses whether to play or fold their hand. If the minimum number of players is not met then the deal returns to step 2. 5. Each remaining player discards two cards then places the remaining cards down in front of them in the order that they wish to reveal them (first card to be revealed on the top).
6. Each player rolls a card.

8. Repeat steps 6 and 7. Each player now has two up cards in front of them.
9. Repeat steps 6 and 7. Each player now has three up cards in front of them.

The Deal

1. Two cards are dealt face down to each player
2. The player to the left of the dealer is dealt a card face up. The player has a choice of keeping this card or pushing it to the next player. If they push the card they pay a 25 cent penalty and get dealt the next card from the deck. 3. If the prior player pushes a card then the next player has the choice of keeping the pushed card, or pushing it in which case they pay a 25 cent penalty and get dealt the next card from the deck.
4. If the prior player keeps their card then the next player gets dealt the next card from the deck and have the choice of keeping it or pushing it, in which case they pay a 25 cent penalty and get dealt the next card from the deck.
5. If the dealer pushes a card then that card is buried face down. It does not get pushed to the player to the left of the dealer.
6. Betting round.
7. Repeat steps 2 through 6. This leaves each player with two face down cards and two face up.
8. Repeat steps 2 through 6. This leaves each player with two face down cards and three face up.
9. Repeat steps 2 through 6. This leaves each player with two face down cards and four face up.
10. Each player is dealt a card face down. Each player now has three face down cards and four face up.
11. Betting round.

Variants

Common Pussy (a.k.a. Madonna) – this can be played if there are eight players. The third up card is dealt as a common card rather than to each player, thus reducing the number of potential cards from 56 to 49.

1. Each player is dealt four down cards.
2. Ten cards are dealt in the center of the table in two columns of five.
3. Betting round.
4. The first card in the left column is turned over. If the card is red then the left column is the red column and the right column is the black column. If the first card is black then the left column is the black column and the right column is the red column.
5. The first card in the right column is turned over. 6. Betting round.
7. The second cards in both columns are turned over.

7. The thrd cards in both columns are turned over.

4. Each player can use the four cards in their hand, and either the active cards in the red column or the active cards in the black column.
5. The left hand column will have between one and five active cards, the right hand column between zero and five active cards.
6. A player may use the different columns when declaring high and low.
7. The highest and lowest hands share the pot.

Royal Flush Payout

Royal and straight flushes do not payout as there is the potential for players to have up to 10 cards, and on one hand there were two straight flushes played.

1. Three cards are dealt to each player, two face down and one face up.
2. Betting round.
3. Each player is dealt a card face up. This leaves each player with two face down cards and two face up.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4. This leaves each player with two face down cards and three face up.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4. This leaves each player with two face down cards and four face up.
7. Each player is dealt a card face down. Each player now has three face down cards and four face up.
